A new item for the DSM "counterstrike thumb" Reason one on why I type so many spaces.
I have a typing affliction. I stream extraneous spaces to the screen due to a hyperactive thumb that seems to mark time with the gaps in thought. So a comma may be a couple of spaces, a period 3-4 and a dramatic pause
You get the picture it's an idiosyncratic behavior that works well for me when I'm writing out items I'm planning to speak about but one that doesn't translate to text. I'd argue that point but I'd argue that a smooth surface has a point if you get down far enough into its structure.
Blaming Counterstrike, a first person view shoot em up, seems like the best course. My jump button is assigned to the space bar and it's become second nature to hit it during lulls in the action.
Other causes? IM seems fair.Back in the old days ( 95) I wasn't afforded, or more accurately couldn't afford, an always on connection so messages arrived, disconnect, read, reply, upload and repeat. The time preference wasn't there as people weren't a hanging around in real time to reply so grammatical short cuts weren't as prevalent as you had the time, and the space to make your point fully. In short I wonder if imposing the same kind of send / receive system as I was once forced to will improve my output ?
Only time will
tell
