A nice Christmas gift at least one person in a suit recognises it's good business to let us pay you

Quick bit of history, ok more mystery but I can set the ego aside , maybe,  for a second.

I tested , attempted to at least, some of the earlier mobile  solutions that ran , walked and crawled    over Wap1    (wap is the action you take against the handset to wake the damn thing up because you believe it's stalled)  and to say it sucked is  totally disrespecting the "achievements"  of Celine Dion when perpetrated against much loved classics  but it's kinda close.

In short.  Most of the new possibilities of the phone were slower and more painful than their real life analogs ,and yes I  include calling off shore call centers in that statement. Fast forward  eight years and this time around it seems to be worse.  Why?   Well there's something about limited interfaces that really concentrated the mind on what could go on a screen, why it should be on it and the real cost encountered by people using it. Mobile is still limited but not so much by the technology (  screens and interfaces obviously have grown by leaps and bounds)  but by the people holding them.     If you are busy to need mobile services for your day to day life then  I guess you don't have the time to replicate the website experience on a reduced screen and questionable input device. E.g your time is already under pressure so, hey  let's actually treat that as such.

My resolution next year will be to persuade as many people as I can that unless they test their apps in situ   , really test them,  e.g I went through order screens from many companies while sitting  during the breaks  at a Coyote's game and know how long it takes , how bad the experience is for most sites and  not to inflict that on people without a really good reason, e.g  there's a demand and there's  no other way around it.

The last thing to go from people's lives in a recession , that still has web access, will be the phone. Social networks during economic downturns ( let's just keep calling it that   time being , get a good night's sleep while you still can)   are going to be vital in ways that anyone that scoffs at twitter will not recognise.

More on that in a bit  but for now to  make sense of the title.
