The post in which I take more than 160 characters to cheer on SMS

The sky is falling or did I just agree with a marketer?

It's easy to see how  people that work with  tech all day think that everyone and their cat have , will have or desire to have smart phones.  Just like everyone wants   broadband. Yep  broadband is up to 70% penetration in the USA amongst -active- users   e.g the people that would see the benefits the most  and those that don't want to be online or are sufficiently happy, or financially bound, to use use modems aren't counted within it.  Other figures show that broadband penetration by population density  in the US is pretty poor  at around 25%

I'm guessing that the same areas  do not have much in the way of 3g service  reducing  most  iPhone surfing experiences to  yawwwwn. that's yawn with a  kerching!

So it's nice to see  a piece that suggests that we're jumping the gun on the provision for the few based on what you can see out your window in SV,LA or NY at the expense of serving a massive market , that have the devices, that use the techonology and may just be  a little recession shy to  plonking down a  two year commitement to anything too smart in the near future.

The upside of SMS - Mobile Marketer - Columns
Everybody will have BlackBerries, PDAs or smartphones by this time next year. This is not true.

Numerous reports forecast that the penetration of high-end handsets (mobile-browser-enabled) will reach no more than 50 percent of the market before 2013 (2012 at the earliest).
