Time to go on a mobile adventure. Or not.
The mobile web is like driving a car in Edinburgh, Scotland. ( not Edin-bro, Edin burg or Edin-burrow ) It's absolutely possible but it's frustrating , time consuming and full of charges from officious gatekeepers. When you get to where you are going you often can't carry out the task you'd hoped to do.Things like like park and load your car. There's the cost of car, insurance ,road tax, fuel tax so by this time you've paid the state for the "privilige" of being able to exist ( seriously without mobility what job chances are practical) you have to pay the place that takes money for your council tax just to park in an edifice your money funded.
It's very much like using a mobile phone , even a "smart" one with most website, except we're volunteering to be treated this way.
Though you pay for the device, the data and navigate yourself to the site chances are it's not going to do what you want, or if it does you're not going to be able to do so easily. There's an uneasy relationship between those that want to sell you the mobile internet while not wanting you to actually use the parts that coincide with their "on deck " money makers. So far "open" phone and network means whatever the company that sold it to you defines as such
Moving on.
Do you get the feeling that many of the sites you find yourself on are written by people taking their cues from text adventure games from the Zork era?
> You are on my mobile site, I have many services Guess.
Now it's time to work out what services are offered, how to get to them and if I can even see the results. Then again it's not as bad as the Legoland a site.
When in San Diego wanted to get the address for the park to check on opening times. Can't do it. They have a nice page 3-4 pages deep that announces that Our sites use flash and for your protection and enjoyment of the internet as a whole we're not going to tell you how to get to the park using an iPhone or anything more limited than say a laptop. Rather lame.
That's with smart phone.
Why is there no map that we can use on our phones? Just mash up a nice Google map/ view , stick in a calendar with showtimes? Have up to date ride wait times.. You know treat it like you give a crap about the ticket prices and actually want us to enjoy the park.
