Joy ? Public Transport? What kind of fumes are filling the buses of this writer.
This is why campaigns to get people to do what's good for them fails drastically. Hyperbole that's not remotely within the experience of anyone having tried it.
Having "done" public transport and had 3 hours sapped from my day when in the UK to get 40 miles I would like to disagree.Putting up with ad hoc availability of scheduled services, and swap between 2 buses / train each with a margin of safety re timing is a juggling game that those advocates of mass transit can't carry through to it's logical conclusion.
Employers, despite their free bus pass/ trainpass or rideshare programs rarely if ever accommodate the reliability issue and for most fixed schedules they are impractical. E.g Do the right thing, get fired or leave in such a safety margin that you end up "working" an extra hour each end. ( great when you have kids to see at home, it's Salaryman American style.
The good part of the article is the obvious that it's going to become cost effective to use alternate forms of energy.. ( who'd a thunk it....) but this sense is neutralized by his definition of where we should live and how we should interact with those around us is seen as a good thing when coerced into it by outside factors. Nice
That's like wishing you good luck on your diet thanks to the presence of a tapeworm. w
