Possibly the most interesting story this year: I'm not li-ion

Not a politician, not an ex VP blowhard , not an environmental organization in fact none of the usual suspects when it comes to improving the lot of humankind seem to have produced anything this useful. Sure those in with the state can force us to use the inventions of others and then pretend they  were the cause. ( see recent bans on incandescent light bulbs by 2014 and improvements to  MPG by even later  for examples)   Putin for man of the year?  Pah,  maybe we should take give it to these people?

The greatly expanded storage capacity could make Li-ion batteries attractive to electric car manufacturers. Cui suggested that they could also be used in homes or offices to store electricity generated by rooftop solar panels.

Stanford's nanowire battery holds 10 times the charge of existing ones
