Two good articles on the alphabet soup I've been spouting. Portable Social networks and H:card
These articles by Brian Suda cover a lot of areas of interest to me lately and provide a reasoned case for their usefulness rather than a descent into the digital anarchy* that many companies fear from letting their users take their toys and go home. After all there are so many games that have value only when you play with others, solo chess? Badminton alone?
If we are to be "game-playing, fun-having creatures", you know, "the otters of the universe" then maybe it's time to swim in the ocean rather than creating your own zoo? Not saying that otters in a zoo aren't adorable but it's nothing compared to seeing them free.
Portable Social Networks: Take Your Friends with You [Content]
Hcard and micro formats.
* not saying that anarchy is a bad idea just that the common understanding of the term is sadly lacking.
