Race, Class, and the Choice of Social-Networking Sites - business as usual.
In another amazing piece of research from the stating the obvious department it seems that a social network that had it's origins as a COLLEGE ONLY ( Harvard, then the rest of the IVY league) network.e.g Facebook has a higher proportion of people with a higher level of education than say the bling and glitter crowd over at Myspace. Who'd a thunk it.. </hicks >
I can't wait to see a tracking study of people in Italian restaurants that eat more pasta than those on the other side of the noodle divide frequenting Korean BBQ eateries.
The conclusion really is about as earth shattering as a bubble wrapped marshmallow falling 2 inches onto an eiderdown quilt.
Other issues are at play as well. Students whose parents have lower levels of schooling are likely to use MySpace, while students whose parents have more formal education lean toward Facebook. And students who live at home are much less likely to frequent social networks than are their classmates who live on the campus.
