Things not to do at work: Read articles that state the bloody obvious from people that are meant to give you career advice.

Thankfully I've not had to use the services of any recruiting site or company these last few years and  while there's always a degree of fear that you won't get a job for along period of time  should the situation go pear shaped it's comforting to know that many of those people I'm competing with. It's always amused me that we have so many laws when the mainly reduce to a few basic principles, if you think about it long enough they can be reduced to a couple ( least for those of a libertarian bent .. )

This is the competition?

Things you should never do at work - CNN.com

1: Stealing .  er duh, thanks for the insist I do hope Career builder takes the advice and stops lifting from the "it's so bloody obvious that it's not worth mentioning section"   I admit  if you are going into local government this may not apply.

4: Calling in sick when you are not: Wouldn't that be #1 ?

5:  Don't come to work when you are sick.

Yeah that's a spot of reality that we all recognize.  This is one of those areas that  has always annoyed me.  For people that work with companies that have sick time, yet limit it artificially, you know   can only be ill so many times in a set period , for a set amount of days else your job is at risk. Er, It's called flu ----season---- for a reason.  Other problems ? Why have a contract with a person  stating sick time as part of their compensation yet limit it to be impossible to use  without  risking your employment?

6:Abusing tech: More stealing,  It's hard to justify this in professional positions since so many useful sources of information are online  that were work>life>work  meets isn't as clear cut as people think it is. Given that I'm on vacation and still engaged in work related activity  you have to wonder if an electronic leash is more abusive than talking with your spouse to arrange kid pickup?

oh and don't gossip,  do shower and don't  try to bed your boss/underling.  ...
