Google gets into gear , my post went into draft. late non breaking, no longer new.. like the idea itself.
Well it looks like I wrote a post and forgot to take it out of draft.. yeah I really am not my blog's only reader
So settle into my own "wayback" machine as I take you back to the end of May 2007.
For those not in the habit of wandering around Techmeme the story de jour is yet another "offline web" framework to extend the browser into the desktop and blur the lines between web/os . Thank Google ? for their new "Gears" which proves that everything new is old again. E.g if you connected in the early days to mail / news you'd connect, get the mail, disconnect , read it/ respond, connect again and send the mail on it's way. I didn't buy that we'd have ubiquitous internet by now , not for technical reasons , due to the truculent nature of the telcos and the promise of the little "free wifi" we have being an archipelago of walled islands which to those not on a company expense account make constant connectivity an expensive proposition.
