Link to TIME Best Inventions 2006

It's amusing that in the 80's "you tube" was an insult in the uk, a relatively mild one but it's time to pull this out from the annals of my personal history and call Time   a bunch o tubes ( don't get too excited Mr Stevens)

tcp ip, ccd, flv,php, mysql my fluffy goodness You tube! is an invention?   In the loosest possible sense maybe.  Once again the media  vicariously aggrandizes  itself .. So  nothing in biotech will have more societal impact than whiny emo chicks and 10 minute bursts of network shows? 

Ok it may be hard to find good examples of such in the mainstream. Even Google sci/tech news is just a list of new products for sale or  advocacy to use research in curing some perceived social ill.
