No longer leading, but heavily bleeding. Were TV new fails.. Coming up in the next blog.
Just kidding. Firstly my prejudice to hate, yep hate not disdain, ambivalance or dislike, local TV news has been present since I made this country my home about nine years ago. I'd never seen so many non sequitors, superficial treatment of even superficial content and the parading of personal grief for profit in an manner that's rather alien to my home country barring the odd Princess interfacing with concrete story. The tying of this to marketing is even more nauseatuing . K-kil First on the scene with another drowned, baked, beaten and abused children seemingly they want to involve us with their morbid obsession with the freak, the tragic in short things that teach you very little about the world, play on emotions and elevate the afflicted to saints/ sinners or quite often both, with a weeks difference: Anyway a more studied piece on how we can get away from this BS can be read here. TV News in a Postmodern World New Metrics and Principles by Terry Heaton
"Consider the television news industry. If you talk to people who don't watch the news anymore, you'll discover that this hype is one of the big reasons people have walked away. We regularly raise the stakes for viewers on some stories to the life or death level, and they know both intellectually and intuitively that it isn't true. But in declaring it so, we fall into the trap of believing our own hype. We convince ourselves that the story lives up to the tease, and that, folks, is very rarely the case."
