Marx out of ten? If there's so many people participating who'll hear me whine?

Good, a chance to get totally out of my depth ( I do funny ok )  and comment on a recent article by Andrew Keen  that  Web2.0  is going to kill off culture, that democratisation of media = mediocrity  and that the sky is falling captured by 10000 amatuer videographers  slightly out of focus with no attention paid to the sound.  So rather than having many opinions to choose from only the very best hand picked one ( for our own cultural wellbeing)  should be allowed.

He chooses to compare 2.0  to Marxism  by attaching it with terms like narcissism, self actualisation and personalisation ,which doesn't  seem  that collective to me.Were one crosses over  from freedom to create , which I think he confuses with an obligation for the rest of us to actual care about  this output is where I am at a loss.

"Elite artists and an elite media industry are symbiotic. If you democratize media, then you end up democratizing talent."

I don't believe  that. It's ridiculous to think that that giving an a chisel to everyone makes a sculptor of us all. Has anyone watched cable tv lately?   I don't buy that scarcity = quality   after all  cars were not as common in E Germany ergo the Trabant was a quality car?  pah.

There is a value to that which  cultural importance can be pinned to , it has a sign $ :)
